Overview
The Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian orthodox
church in North America and Canada will hold its Silver
Jubilee Convention in July 2010 from 22nd thru 25th at Garden State
Convention Center (Mor Athanasius Nagar), Somerset, New Jersey, named H.E.
Athanasius Yeshu Samuel who was the founder and first Archbishop of this
diocese. A gathering of 500 families (about 2000 members) are expected to
participate in this historic convention.
Wide plans and preparations are being done by
Archdiocesan Council and Silver Jubilee Convention Committee under the guidance
of Archbishop Mor Theethos. To make this Silver Jubilee Convention a grand
success and a memorable one, a 101+ member National Committee with
representatives from all parishes, has been formed headed by
Mr. Joby George, Philadelphia (General Convener) and Mr. George Korath, Florida
(National Coordinator).
The bible verse 1 Corinthians 15:57 (But thanks be
to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ) has been
chosen as the theme for the jubilee convention.

One of the highlights of the Silver Jubilee
Convention will be the 25-in-mel qurbana (qurbana conducted simultaneously on 25
altars by Bishops/Corepiscopos/Achens ) on Sunday, the last day of the convention.
This will commemorate the quarter century of history of the first overseas
Archdiocese of Syrian Orthodox Church members from Malankara, India. It will be the first time
such a service is held in North America.
There will be several spiritual talks and
discussions by eminent visitors from India as well as from North America.
